Speak of Tattoos

At Wesmans’ last doctor’s appointment he met all the developmental benchmarks, except one. I mentioned it at the time (about 2 months ago) and expressed that I wasn’t that worried about it. I’m still not, but the fact that I’m writing this demonstrates that I have a little concern. At 18 months he was supposed to be able to have a vocabulary of 9 words. He didn’t…and he still doesn’t. The weird thing is, he’s very vocal. He points (mostly at fire extinguishers) and blabs like like he’s saying something, but they aren’t words. He can follow along with all the songs on his Korean and English CDs; he sounds like he’s singing, but he’s basically humming. I think if he were completely silent I’d be more concerned than I am. He gets a lot more Korean than Jake did, so the two languages might be slowing down the development. In three years I’ll likely look back at this time and miss the silence. Why? Well Jakes is basically the opposite. Yes, he’s occasionally silent, but most of the time he’s talking, singing, and/or asking a question. Mostly questions, and as I’ve written lately, he’s asked me everything except “Why do zebras have stripes?”

I wonder if they’ll have tattoos when the get older. Jake went into the kitchen the other day and walked out with tattoos all over his body. He loves them. Thank god they wear off.

Oh, and omma and I went to see Morrissey the other night.

  1. I’ve got a coworker who faced the same thing with their child growing up in a bilingual household. There was concern at first as their son wasn’t saying much although the comprehension was there. He got tested and everything checked out along the same lines as what you said- having the two languages was like an overload of info. Not to worry, eventually they’ll be ahead of the curve. And a different language is like an instrument. Once you learn one you can apply those skills to learning others easily. Nice Morrisey pic too! You were much closer for this one then when we saw him at Great Woods.

    • Yeah, his doctor has mentioned the bi-lingual thing. I’m sure he’ll come around. How’s your Danish by the way? Have you held on to that?

MUCH closer this time for the Mozzer. I remember that Great Woods show well. As far as I remember he played about 45 mins, collected some flowers (his fans still do this), then left. I wasn’t expecting much, but hearing How Soon Is Now? and Still Ill from the man himself was incredible. Great backing band too.

  2. Jo selvfølgelig jeg kan stadig læse, skrive, snakker og forstår Dansk. Yeah still got it. I’ve actually been getting back in touch with my Danish friends on FB recently. That Great Woods show was a rip to have such a short set after driving so long. I think some fan jumped onstage and tried to hug him so he ran off mid song. Must have been awesome to hear those Smiths classics live!
